Violin Lessons

Thank you for your interest in violin lessons. I have been playing the violin for over 25 years, and have been teaching for 10 years, both privately and at music schools in Vancouver, Canada. I have recently moved to London, and will be looking to book lessons for Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-6pm in Harrow.

I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, and am dedicated to finding practical solutions to students’ technical problems. I also try to teach with patience as well as humour, because while violin playing is hard work, in the end music should be enjoyable. I am happy to work with every student to study the type of music that they are interested in, while rooting the study in proper violin technique. Learn to prepare for examinations or just play for fun!

I hold an ARCT diploma in Violin Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. I am also a composer and actor, and have served as Assistant Music Director on several stage musical productions as well as served as a composer on several short film soundtracks. Please contact me to book a lesson.

Rates are £30 per hour, plus £5 per hour for travel.

Please note that I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellation of lessons, as the lesson time was booked specifically for you.

Testimonials

‘Phyllis Ho is an extremely gifted violin teacher; not only very skilled musically but also articulates her instructions well. Her teaching methods are extremely effective and she utilizes various mediums such as diagrams and music recordings to help her students realize the music. Phyllis’ teaching method can be described as technical with a good balance of witty making her lesson fun and approachable. As an adult student just starting to play the violin, I am very lucky to have Phyllis as my teacher. Her patient and persistent nature are key to helping anyone achieve excellent violin playing.’

As an adult beginner violin student, I was so happy to find Phyllis. Her approach is very respectful and she offers helpful suggestions adapting the conservatory curriculum where necessary to keep things interesting. My playing has improved a great deal under her instruction. She is very relaxed and fun to learn from, something that keeps me playing. I would highly recommend her to anyone, of any age, wishing to learn the  violin.
